Artist Statement

‌As I walk outside in today’s busy world, I am absorbed by the flowers and colorful stones on the streets. Flowers and natural stones always seem to put a smile on my face.
Flowers, being the main motif of my craft, are expressed in both structural and one-dimensional manners.
Naturally, stones are an indispensable component that plays a major role in my craft. In my designs, the stones either act as the surface or “land” or are expressed as elements in a flower. Whilst using various methods to express the shapes of floral designs, the stones are mainly used to accentuate the natural color it possesses. The processing and form of the stones may be artificial, but the natural colors these stones retain is genuine. I hope you recognize and feel the beauty of nature through my work, and that it also puts a smile on your face.

꽃과 천연석은 나를 미소 짓게 하는 것 중 하나이다.
길을 걷다 보면 어느새 나의 시선은 꽃에 머물러 있다. 작업의 모티브가 되는 꽃은 때론 구조적인 형상으로 표현되거나 1차원적인 모습으로 표현되기도 한다. 그리고 천연석은 나의 작업에서 빠지지 않는 소재이다. 대지가 되거나 꽃의 한 요소로 표현된다. 꽃은 다양한 방법들을 통해 형상을 표현하지만, 천연석은 그대로의 빛깔을 보여주기 위한 부분에 집중한다. 형태는 인위적일지라도 빛깔은 인위적이지 않은 아름다움을 말이다. 나의 작업을 통해 자연이 주는 아름다운 것들을 느끼며 미소 짓기를 바란다.
